Everything You Need to Know About Lash Adhesive

If you have ever found yourself staring at your glue bottle wondering whether it is still good, how long it should last, or why it is not performing the way it used to, you are not alone. Lash adhesive is honestly one of the most talked about topics in the lash world, and for good reason. It plays a huge role in your retention and your client's experience. So let's break it all down.

Whether you are a new lash artist or have been in the industry for years, lash adhesive questions never get old. From how long your glue should last to why it is suddenly not performing the way it used to, I am breaking down the most frequently asked questions about lash adhesive so you can get the best results every single time.

How Long Will My Lash Adhesive Last?

This really depends on how much you are lashing! If you are working part time, your bottle of glue can last up to 8 weeks. Full time lashers can typically expect 4 to 6 weeks from a bottle. And if you are super busy, you will likely go through a bottle within 4 weeks.

Here is the thing though. You do not need to throw your glue out after 4 weeks just because someone told you to. As long as you are not constantly opening the lid and exposing the bottle to moisture, your adhesive can absolutely last longer. Work smart, not wasteful!

Does Lash Adhesive Expire?

Yes, it does. Adhesive manufactured from our supplier has an expiry of 6-9 months. You can find the date of manufacture on our product page for each adhesive.
Once opened, its lifespan depends on how frequently it is used and how well it is cared for. Always keep an eye out for changes in consistency, smell, or performance. These are your biggest clues that it might be time for a fresh bottle.

How Should I Store My Lash Adhesive?

Storage is everything when it comes to making your adhesive last. Keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and humidity. The bathroom is actually one of the worst places to store your glue because steam and moisture can start breaking down the formula over time.

Many lash artists swear by keeping their adhesive in an airtight container or a dedicated adhesive storage unit. It is a small habit that can make a big difference.

Why Is My Adhesive Not Sticking Properly?

Poor adhesion is frustrating, but it usually comes down to one of a few things. Your adhesive could be nearing the end of its life, your workspace humidity might be off, you may not have shaken the bottle long enough before use, or your client's natural lashes were not thoroughly cleansed and prepped.

Always shake your adhesive for at least 1 to 2 minutes before you start. It sounds like a lot but it really does make a difference in how the glue performs throughout your set.

What Is the Ideal Humidity for Lash Adhesive?

Most adhesives perform best in a humidity range of 45% to 65%. Too dry and the adhesive cures too slowly, too humid and it cures too fast. Both affect retention. Investing in a hygrometer to monitor your workspace is one of the best things you can do for your lash business.

Can I Use a Nano Mister or Nebuliser?

Yes and it is a great tool to have in your kit! A nano mister releases a fine mist that helps cure the adhesive faster and can reduce any fumes your client feels during the service. Just make sure you hold it at least 30cm away from the lashes and use it at the very end of the service for best results.

Why Does My Adhesive Go Stringy or Clumpy?

This usually happens when the nozzle has not been cleaned properly after each use, or the adhesive has been exposed to air and moisture over time. Get into the habit of wiping the nozzle clean after every single drop. If the adhesive inside the bottle has become stringy or thick, that is a sign it is time for a replacement.

How Often Should I Replace My Adhesive Drop?

A fresh drop should be replaced every 15 to 30 minutes. Once the surface of your drop starts to look tacky or stringy, the adhesive has already started curing from air exposure and it will not bond as effectively. Always work from a fresh, fluid drop for the best retention results.

Is Lash Adhesive Safe for Sensitive Clients?

Most professional lash adhesives contain cyanoacrylate, which can cause sensitivity or reactions in some clients. If you have a client with known sensitivities, look into a sensitive adhesive usually a clear, a slower drying adhesive will also have less fumes.
